Learn more about Shirwan rugs

Shirwan district is located in the heart of the Caucasian carpet production area, bordered to the north by the city of Quba and Dagestan, to the east by Baku, to the south by Talish and Mogan, to the southwest by Karabagh and the Kazakh area. Shirwan carpets were produced mainly for commercial purposes and not for personal use, like many other Caucasian carpets. The Shirwan area, with its immense and profitable carpet production, has such a multiplicity of designs that are not subject to any rules. Cataloguing the vast heritage of Shirwan carpets is very difficult. Designs and patterns that seem characteristic of one area can suddenly reappear in villages hundreds of kilometers away. Generally we can say that they are carpets with mostly geometric designs, rarer floral ones. The main colors are red combined with more neutral colors such as beige or yellow or contrasted with blue.
