Learn more about Nahavand rugs
Nahavand carpets are produced in the western part of Iran in the Hamadan region, 300 km west of Tehran. Hamadan is an important market center for all articles of daily use and its history is 2500 years old, from the pre-Christian era. The oldest and most antique carpets are knotted on a camel wool or camel-colored sheep wool ground. The preferred colors for the designs and outlines are red, blue and dark brown in various shades and, very sparingly, black and white. The patterns of diamonds, lozenges, hexagons and polygons are very simple and linear. The warp and weft are made mainly of cotton. The pile has a medium-high shaving.
