In a small town south of Birdjand, on the border with Afghanistan, a carpet is produced that we have only found on the market with some regularity for a few years. Mud carpets are among the best products of Khorasan. The colours used give a fairly dark overall effect, in fact many colours are used. The motif chosen most frequently is that of the central medallion that usually covers the entire field of the carpet. The warp and weft are in cotton while the fleece in sheep's wool is shaved low. Mud carpets are excellent products of the Persian carpet art, they are of great qualitative and decorative interest.
