Learn more about Kilim rugs
Kilims are made exclusively by the Qashqai nomads who live in the Fars and Bushehr regions. The term Kilim means “woven carpet”, in fact they are made using only the colored threads of the warp and weft that create a flat surface, therefore without pile. These artifacts were the main art form of the Qashqai tribes as wool was easily available thanks to livestock farming. In everyday life they were used both to decorate the tents in which they lived and to protect themselves from the cold. Furthermore, being very light and thin, they were comfortable to carry when traveling. For technical reasons, the designs of the Kilims are constantly geometric, as the change in color can only occur horizontally or orthogonally to the warp. The color, however, can occur at will, at the height of any warp thread, around which the weft thread is turned and brought back. The nomads, while moving, often dyed the wool as the need arose, which explains why the same color never has the same intensity. The looms also had to be easy to transport, so they were mostly horizontal and small. Always appreciated in the world of furniture, the kilim is practical and versatile, with its eye-catching colors and infinite geometries it can easily be placed in both city and country or mountain homes. On our online site you can buy both vintage and new kilims.
