Find out more about Lilian rugs
Lilian carpets are the work of knotters whose ancestors were deported in the 17th century by order of Shah Abbas from the Caucasus to the territory south-east of Arak, in the region of Mahal. It is surprising how the majestic and floral designs do not even hint at their Caucasian origin, unlike other tribes that immigrated from the Caucasus such as the Qashqa'i, whose hereditary heritage is clearly revealed in their carpets. The dominant colors in Lilian are red, blue, green in various shades, in addition to white, ivory and black used only for the outlines. The designs are mostly flowers and leaves that form fan-shaped motifs. The warp and weft are in cotton while the wool pile has a medium-high shear.
