Learn more about Hamadan rugs
The ancient history of the city of Hamadan dates back 2,500 years, to pre-Christian times. With its 200,000 inhabitants, it is an important market center for all articles of daily use. The oldest and most ancient Hamadan carpets are knotted on a camel wool or sheep wool ground. As colors for the designs and outlines, red, blue and dark brown in various shades are preferred, and very sparingly, white and black. The diamond, lozenge, hexagon and polygon patterns are very simple and linear. The warp and weft are mainly made of cotton while the pile is made of wool, has a medium-high high shaving.
