Russian Bukhara rugs are made by the nomadic Turkmen populations who live in a vast territory that goes from Iran to Afghanistan to Turkestan. These rugs are very famous throughout the world and highly appreciated for their quality and the softness of the wool. Bukhara rugs are characterized by warm colors, mainly red, and geometric designs called “gol” that cover the entire field. The weft, warp and pile are made of wool. The shaving is medium-low. Pakistani Bukharas are imitations of Russian Bukharas. Obviously cheaper, unlike the originals they have a cotton weft and warp. The shaving is always medium-low and they are very resistant rugs.
