Find out more about Ardebil carpets
Ardebil carpets are knotted in the province of the same name in northern Iran.
For those who know the ancient history of Persian carpets, the name Ardebil recalls the very precious Safavid masterpiece, now preserved at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. However, the name should not mislead, leading one to believe the existence of ancient imperial factories in the city, which had the honor of giving its name to such a prestigious example only because it was found in one of its mosques. The most recent Ardebil carpets have a variety of very notable designs, in fact they imitate Caucasian geometric decorations. The colors used are mostly red, blue and beige. The warp and weft are in cotton while in the ancient examples they are made of wool.
