With its vast territory, Eastern Anatolia constitutes a region in itself in the ethnic panorama of Turkey and, by extension, in the production of carpets. Weaving has always been widely practiced also to satisfy the needs of nomads, who use knotted artefacts to build and furnish their tents. Wool production is also widespread, as livestock farming and herding are the main local economic resources. The colours used for the background are not too bold tones, often using apricot and green. While for the designs, almost always geometric and very basic, light brown, black, violet, light blue and yellow are used. The knotting is rather coarse and the pile, always in wool, has a high shaving.
