Learn more about Afshari rugs
The Afshari belong to one of the large autonomous tribal groups of Persia, whose ancestors settled in the north of the region, between Shiraz, Kirman and Yazd. They speak a Turkish dialect and knot carpets that, in terms of stylistic elements and colour, resemble those of the Caucasus. They are a nomadic, semi-nomadic or sedentary people who knot mostly carpets for themselves, in very harmonious colours, in very simple tents or clay huts. The warp is made of cotton while the weft is made of wool and is sometimes dyed red or blue. The pile is shaved medium-high or high.
