Learn more about Abadeh rugs
Abadeh with its 10,000 inhabitants is located at 2,000 meters above sea level, in a region that we would consider high mountains, almost halfway between Esfahan and Shiraz. The region has nothing else to offer its inhabitants other than desert and mountains. A particular tradition, which dates back to the times of the nomads, consists of horizontal looms. The Abadeh generally have a color scheme based on brick red, beige and today light blue. The colors of the ornaments and borders are still red, light blue, blue, brown, beige, ivory yellow and many others. The typical Abadeh have three basic patterns: the Keibatlu pattern which consists of an imposing hexagon filled with small ornamental flowers and leaves; in the center and in the corners, octagonal and light patterns are almost always inserted, resembling four-leaf clovers; finally, the border is generally made up of three large decorated borders. These designs give the carpet their characteristic image. The warp and weft are made of cotton while the wool pile is medium-high shaved.
